A little bit about the staff..
Laura is 30 years old, originally from Cork in Ireland but has been living in the UK for the past 6 years. She came to Canada in July with Imogen, and arrived at Happy Tails as part of a 1 month work experience programme. That one month quickly turned into an easy decision to stay on at Happy Tails and help start up a brand new cattery called Cats on Cann Lake. Laura has several years academic experience in the animal care sector having completed a degree in Zoology and a masters in Conservation and Biodiversity. She has worked as a nature ranger for a British company and as an animal welfare assistant for a British charity, during this time she also fostered over 20 cats and kittens. Over the years she has also done several volunteer placements for wildlife charities in Namibia, Guatemala and British Columbia.
Imogen is 27 years old and originally from Nottingham in England. She came to Canada with Laura in July and also found a home at Happy tails. She is extremely creative having completed a degree in Contemporary Crafts and even runs her own craft shop on Etsy. At Happy tails she has quickly put her skills to good use and is now head of creations working with owner Lisa to design and create a wide range of pet related products. She has a long history of working with cats and with Laura has helped foster and rehome dozens of kitties in need.
Lisa Brooks, owner/founder of Happy Tails Pet Resort, began her dog industry education in the early 1970s – apprenticing with Ilsa Kopetz, renowned breeder, exhibitor and importer of top German Shepherds. Excelling for over two decades as a professional all-breed dog groomer Lisa accomplished ground-breaking work in 1991 by creating curriculum to found the first government-licensed vocational school teaching dog grooming in Canada – the Alberta Academy of Dog Grooming. In 1996, Lisa returned to her hometown of Huntsville and opened Happy Tails’ Pet Resort & Camp. Happy Tails is the pioneer in cage-free pet care and continues to be Muskoka’s retreat for the furry elite. Lisa’s grandmother, Mary Brooks, built and operated Brooklin Lodge on Peninsula Lake in Muskoka for over 60 years. Just as her grandmother provided a classic cottage resort lifestyle for humans, Lisa has passionately dedicated her life to providing the same experience for dogs and now cats.
